Facebook Lite squeezes the full Facebook experience into an app that installs in a couple of megabytes and runs on any Android phone and any network, 2G included. It is not a cut-down viewer: feed, Marketplace, Groups, notifications and chat all live inside it, so there is no separate Messenger to install. Images load at reduced quality by default and video autoplay stays off, which is what keeps a data bundle alive through the day rather than through the morning. Meta also keeps it compatible with Android releases the main app dropped years ago, so on an entry-level or second-hand handset it is frequently the only version that runs at all — and on those phones it opens promptly where the full app stalls.
Key features
- Installs in a few megabytes, against well over a hundred for the full Facebook app
- Loads images at reduced quality by default so the feed opens on 2G
- Feed, Marketplace, Groups and chat in one app — no separate Messenger needed
- Runs on Android versions the main Facebook app dropped years ago
- Video autoplay is off by default, so the feed doesn’t eat a data bundle

How to update
The build on this page is Facebook Lite 522.0.0.5.107 (3.4 MB). APK installs do not update through the Play Store, so come back when a newer version is listed here and install it over the old one — your data is kept.
FAQ
What does Facebook Lite leave out compared to the full app?
Mostly the heavy parts: high-resolution image and video loading, autoplay, most animations, Reels-style browsing and some newer tabs. Posting, commenting, reactions, Groups, Marketplace, notifications and chat all work. On a slow connection the trade is worth it — the feed loads where the full app just spins.
Do I need Messenger as well?
No. Facebook Lite has messaging built in, which is the main structural difference from the full Facebook app — that one hands chats off to a separate Messenger install. One Lite app covers both, and that is a second app’s worth of storage and RAM saved.
Can I keep Facebook Lite and the full Facebook on one phone?
Yes. They are separate packages (com.facebook.lite and com.facebook.katana), so both install side by side and you can sign in to the same account in each. A common setup is Lite on mobile data and the full app on Wi-Fi.
Why can’t I find Facebook Lite on the Play Store?
Meta only lists it in countries where it targets low-bandwidth networks, so the Play Store hides the listing elsewhere and it also disappears if your Android version is outside the supported range. The APK itself is the same build Meta ships — check the package name is com.facebook.lite before installing.
Is the Facebook Lite APK safe to install?
Yes. We mirror the official Meta build and publish its SHA-256 checksum and a VirusTotal scan on this page, so you can verify the file is untouched before installing.
What is the Facebook Lite package name?
The Android application ID is com.facebook.lite. Check it after installing (Settings → Apps) to confirm you got the genuine app.
How much data does Facebook Lite save?
Lite apps are built for entry-level phones and expensive data plans: a much smaller download, lower RAM use, and significantly less mobile data than the full version.
