Facebook's official Android app carries the whole network: feed, Reels, Stories, Groups, Marketplace, live video and events. Two of those matter disproportionately here — Marketplace, where a great deal of second-hand trade is arranged, and Groups, which carry everything from campus notice boards to trader associations and church communities. The app is not light. It expects a reasonably modern phone and a real connection, and on a small bundle it will drain data quickly unless autoplay is switched off in the media settings. Chat is also not included: Facebook hands conversations to a separate Messenger install. That split is the main reason many people run Facebook Lite instead, since Lite keeps the feed and the messages together in one small app.

How to update
The build on this page is Facebook 572.0.0.38.71 (145.6 MB). APK installs do not update through the Play Store, so come back when a newer version is listed here and install it over the old one — your data is kept.
FAQ
Why do I need Messenger as a separate app?
Meta split messaging out of the main Facebook app years ago, so com.facebook.katana handles the feed and com.facebook.orca handles chat. You can still read messages in a mobile browser without Messenger, but the app will keep pushing you to install it. Facebook Lite is the one official build that still keeps both in a single app.
How do I stop Facebook draining my data bundle?
The biggest single change is turning off video autoplay — Settings, then Media, then set autoplay to never or Wi-Fi only. Data Saver mode in the same section lowers image quality, and uploading photos on Wi-Fi only stops large posts going out over mobile data. Together they make a marked difference to how fast a bundle drains.
Facebook or Facebook Lite — which should I install?
If your phone has 2 GB of RAM or less, or you are mostly on 3G, Lite is the better daily driver: it installs in a couple of megabytes and includes chat. Keep the full app if you post video, use Reels heavily or rely on newer features, since Lite drops those deliberately.
The app installed but won’t update — what now?
An APK installed outside the Play Store does not receive Play updates unless the Play Store recognises the same signing certificate. In practice you update by installing a newer APK over the old one; the signature matches, so your account and data stay in place. Never uninstall first, or you lose local app data.
Is the Facebook APK safe to install?
Yes. We mirror the official Meta build and publish its SHA-256 checksum and a VirusTotal scan on this page, so you can verify the file is untouched before installing.
What is the Facebook package name?
The Android application ID is com.facebook.katana. Check it after installing (Settings → Apps) to confirm you got the genuine app.
