Does SHAREit use my mobile data?
Not for the transfer itself. The two phones talk over a direct Wi-Fi link they create between themselves, so file size is irrelevant to your bundle. The app does use data for its own content feed and ads, which is worth knowing — you can leave mobile data off entirely while transferring.
Why does it ask for so many permissions?
Storage access is needed to read and write the files, Location is the awkward one: on Android 12 and earlier it was the only permission that let an app scan or create Wi-Fi networks, so the app asks for it even though it never needs your position. Android 13 added a narrower Nearby devices permission, and on a newer phone that is what you should see instead. Anything beyond those is worth declining; the transfer works without it.
Can I send files to an iPhone or a laptop?
Yes. Both devices need SHAREit installed, or on a computer you can use the web-share mode, where the phone shows a local address you open in the laptop's browser while both sit on the same network. Cross-platform transfers are slower than Android to Android and some file types are restricted by iOS.
